Your fresh roses deserve to last as long as possible. Follow our expert care guide to extend their life and keep them looking magnificent.

How to Care for Your Luxury Rose Arrangement

Receiving a luxury rose arrangement is a joy. Keeping it looking magnificent for as long as possible is an art. At The Trillion Roses, every arrangement is prepared with specialised floral foam, carefully packed to survive transit, and arrives at peak freshness. Here is how to ensure your roses look their finest for days to come.

The First 30 Minutes Matter Most

When your arrangement arrives, unbox it immediately. Remove all protective wrapping carefully and place it in a cool spot away from direct sunlight. If your arrangement is in floral foam (as most of our hat box arrangements are), check that the foam is moist. If it feels dry, add a small amount of cool water — approximately 50ml — directly to the centre of the foam.

Ideal Conditions for Fresh Roses

  • Temperature: 18–22°C is ideal. Roses are sensitive to extremes — avoid placing near radiators, air conditioning vents, or in direct sunlight
  • Away from fruit: Ripening fruit releases ethylene gas which accelerates flower ageing. Keep roses in a separate room from fruit bowls
  • Humidity: Moderate humidity is fine. Very dry environments (such as air-conditioned offices) will cause petals to dry faster

Daily Care Routine

For arrangements in floral foam:

  1. Each morning, carefully add 50–100ml of cool fresh water to the foam base
  2. Remove any petals that have browned or drooped — this prevents ethylene from affecting healthy blooms
  3. Gently mist the petals with clean water using a fine spray bottle (not directly onto the foam)

Guard Petals — Don't Be Alarmed

You may notice the outermost petals of your roses appear slightly thicker, darker, or discoloured. These are guard petals — the rose's natural protection during transit. Simply pinch them away gently at the base. Beneath them, you will find perfect, fresh petals.

If You Wish to Transfer to a Vase

If you would like to move your roses to a vase after a few days, follow these steps:

  1. Fill a clean vase with cool, fresh water and a sachet of flower food (or add a teaspoon of sugar and a drop of bleach as an alternative)
  2. Remove each stem from the foam gently, pulling straight upward
  3. Under running water, cut approximately 2cm from the base of each stem at a 45-degree angle — this maximises water uptake
  4. Place immediately in your prepared vase
  5. Change the vase water every two days

How Long Will They Last?

With proper care, a fresh luxury rose arrangement from The Trillion Roses will typically last 7–14 days. The exact lifespan depends on the variety, the environment, and how diligently you follow the care routine.

Every fresh cut flower arrangement is a living display of natural, evolving beauty that rewards attention and daily care.
